Two n00bish questions for Flash vets:
    • How can I make the flash movie itself transparent? I know it's been done.
    • Is there a way to use a Flash movie as a background except by positioning other elements on top of the Flash <object>?
    Thanks

I have never tried to do either of these things, so I may be completely off, but logically speaking... could you use CSS?

By transparent, do you mean parts of it or the whole thing? If in parts, that would have to be specified in the fla/swf, and I can be of no further help. If as a whole in the html...you could have it hidden? You can always place it inside a div with those attributes.

For your second question, can you set the background image as the .swf?

Neither, quite: Say I had a movie with only a huge yellow glowing ball in it. Then I stuck the movie on a page with a green striped background. Instead of seeing a white or black or green box around the yellow glowing ball, the flash movie should be transparent except for the glowing yellow ball. See? I want a transparent movie background.

    I guess that's what I'm asking... but I rather doubt it's possible.

In fact I came across a forum where this was discussed, and the answer was "no, you can't."

didn't read it, but bookmarked it... (found it on ma.gnolia.com) It's about using flash as a background for stuff.

You can use flash as BG or make it transparent using the <param name="wmode"...

It only works in IE, though, so it's not suggested for anything excpet intranet apps.
