    2. What is a .FLA file?

    3. What is the difference between the two?

    4. If I created a flash gallery in a program (not macromedia flash) can i convert the .SWF to a .FLA file and still edit it in flash????

    2. A FLA file is your project in flash and is editable. The swf file is when you export that project for the web and generally speaking isn't editable.

    3. I don't know the difference between the files but http://www.coffeecup.com/firestarter/ looks like a cut down cheap easy to use version of flash. The amount you can achieve with though is a little unclear.

    4. If the program allows you to save the file as .fla then most definitely yes. If the program doesn't then no.
