    hi, perhaps someone can explain to me the validity of calling a folder "com" for packages?

    for example:

    Code:
    package com.gui.something
    {

    public class Something
    {
    why com? I see that everywhere?

    The reason is that it is based on Sun's original package guidelines for Java. See http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/ht...ions.doc8.html for more on that. Basically the first couple of parts of a package name tend to be the reversed domain name of the people who made it. So say for openstudy.com, our packages are generally named com.openstudy.other stuff.

    Some people go all the way with a subdomain -- one example on that page is edu.cmu.cs -- that's for cs.cmu.edu. Past that it's just your own organizational scheme.
