    Hello,

I have been trying to create a now playing bar for a radio station. Basically it just needs to have Now Playing, Artist Name - Track Name, and then a Just Played, Artist and Track Name. I thought Flash would be the easiest way to do this. At the moment I have track and artist names being written constantly to a SQL database, and they are just overwriting the same fields constantly. So the Flash movie needs to connect to an SQL database, and update frequently. I thought this would be a breeze but it seems hard to make Flash get data from a SQL database.

Is this the best option or is there another way that will be a lot easier. I've even thought about doing non flash version that is basically a div with the dynamic data displayed, but then from the research I have done I can't find an easy to constantly refresh dynamic data from a database?

Thanks for any help you can provide to get me started on this.

Austin, I don't think you'll find a specific answer to your question as such. It's too intelligent.

Having said that, what you could do in very vague, generalistic terms is to use AJAX to communicate with your server by sending XML requests and receiving XML responses. You would use Javascript (or possibly a framework such as jQuery) to send the XML request to a server-side page and process the corresponding XML response.

I've done something similar in concept here (although I'm reworking this site very slowly but surely). Select a country, and then a province/state, then city...each listbox is pulled via AJAX from the server.

Hopefully this will give you a starting point.

By the way, cool name. My oldest nephew's name is Austin. His dad and I named him after Stone Cold. (My sister wouldn't let me name kids after that.)
