Hi, first of all I'm just starting out with Illustrator CS5, and I'm trying to replicate this logo exactly as a practice.
I've tried the Extrude and Bevel 3D effect after adding the fill gradients to the objects, but I can't manage to get the gradient fill on the edges.

Any other procedure and help is appreciated.

I don't use adobe but I'd recreate this in fireworks by:

Making the a copy of the lettering, the bottom copy, use the convert to path command, make the path 4-5 pixels white, then bevel and gradient the top copy.

The sun shape is layered ( identified by the shadow of the circle over the points ), so that would be don the same, but apply the drop shadow to the copy of the circle that you converted to paths.

Not sure if the terminology is the same, but should be close.

I wouldn't suggest doing a logo in anything but Illustrator. Those colors are gradients. You can apply them by going to window-> and making sure the gradient window is checked. Then you can apply your gradient to each layer as need be.
