Illustrator CS6 difference between Web profice and Basic RGB profile

    Hi

Apologies if this is a dumb question but I cannot understand the difference between the web profile and basic RGB profile in Illustrator CS6 - they seem to me to be almost the same.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me.

    Thanks

    George

IIRC, Web colors are RGB, but with the "not web safe" colors removed. I'm pretty sure it's moot at this point, since "not web safe" isn't that big a concern anymore, and CSS has added full RGBa and HSLa color support. In other words, just go with RGB.

    Hi Roe

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I'm still not sure why or when I should choose one over the other. There is a subtle difference in the swatches panel - the web profile has a colour group called Web Color Group and basic RGB has a colour group named Cold. I remember in older version of Illustrator a similar confusion between the Print profile and Basic CMYK - I couldn't see the difference.

The only true difference I know is that between CMYK and RGB which when you design things for print you should only use CMYK. This article might help you George - Adobe Illustrator CS6 and the changes to the New documentīs startup profiles | dgillustrator

Thanks for that - I'll have a look at that article and hope it sheds some light.
