    can anyone tell me the name of the best known jpeg comperession software available,i`ve been using jpeg cruncher but wanted to know if there was a better program for compressing jpegs.

    To my knowledge, virtually all JPEG compression is the same. Photoshop offers 12 (or 11, can't remember) levels of compression.

    The general rule is that if your image is very monochromatic, has transparency, or has large blocks of the same color, use GIF. Otherwise use JPEG.
