Fireworks PNGs will open in CS2, but they won't be editable.

Kinda strange though dont you think, being that they are as one company and you can edit .psd files in FW but not .png files in PS.
Just a word of warning though - if you do consider upgrading to PS CS3 it no longer has Imageready. It would appear that they have ditched it and embedded some of it into PS CS3 - though in saying this the HTML code generated does still say <!-- ImageReady Slices --> just for good measure to force the knife fully home for those that miss it.
Oh and one other thing, it does not include JavaScript for Comps -Slices. All very weird really and in my view a little sloppy as the extended version is there top of the range product!

In that case I'll just stick with CS2 because I absolutely love it. I don't use Imageready all that much, but I would miss it. I normally just use Photoshop's "Save for Web" feature, but Imageready is nice when I need more options for the HTML output.
