    SVG

I've been having a conversation off the forums with tctguy about SVG.

I was wondering what opinions you guys have of it... whether it will take over Web Vectors or whatnot.

I think the cool part is that it's scripted, so you could potentially generate vectors from a database or server-side script.

Can't wait to start playing around with it. I probably won't until it's well-supported though.

    For those who picked #4:

    http://www.adobe.com/svg/

Adobe is one of the pioneers of the SVG language. The url above has some really good resources.

I think it's doubtful... The last time I used the plugin it was VERY buggy. My vector images went off the screen, but I was unable to scroll (this is in lastest IE). I think it was on buddyzoo.caltech.tedu (very cool site btw). Until it works better, I'd say no. Flash is the standard until then.

Why use SVG when there is Flash? In my best experience, flash is the same thing as SVG, only much more powerful, robust, easier to use and widely supported.

True enough... I'm talking about the future, though. The three benefits of SVG over Flash are:
    1. it is scripted like HTML, which will make it easier to auto-generate programmatically,
    2. because it's scripted, search engines will be able to index it, and
    3. it is a W3C standard, which means all browsers will (some day) implement it and you won't need a plug-in to see it (good news for people who turn off active x controls).
