    Latest Logo Design

Seattle Well Mama Logo Concept by ~fireproofgfx on deviantART

I made this for my sister in law who has a practice in the Seattle area that offers massage for pregnant women, hence the design I came up with and all she can say is:

"I really like the colors and the font on number 4 is the closest to what I want, but the symbols are not quite what I'm looking for. I would prefer to stay away from pregnant women and the iconic space needle. I would like something much more simple like the swirl that I sent you - some round and feminine and even flowery could work."

Needless to say I am feeling kind of rejected lol.... I try to shock and awe the client to the point they are happy with their first results so I don't have to waste anymore time designing a second concept but did not work instead she wants flowers and swirls. So back to the drawing board.

It doesn't hurt to add a couple of questions before the logo is made. "Would you like your logo to reflect Seattle locale?" or something like "are there any types of imagery you want to avoid or colors you like/dislike". Overall you just have to remember how subjective it is and ask a lot of questions up front. I think the logos work fine but the client's opinion is the only one that counts, even if it is family . Don't get discouraged, I am sure there are plenty other Seattle based businesses you could use that type of thing for in the future, just change up the colors/fonts and you are fine.

I don't always agree with the the statement "the client is always right" because who is considered the specialist in Logo or Web design? the client or the designer. When designing a logo you should try and work with the words that are found in the name and incorporate them into the logo, when and if possible. I understand clients have their desires (wrong as they may be). But a client wouldn't know this because this is not their profession. But anyways, thanks for the encouragement. I made her a different logo and she likes it a lot better even though I wouldn't share it in my portfolio.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it doesn't matter whether you like the logo. It doesn't matter whether she does or not, either. What matters is whether or not a client (which would obviously be a pregnant woman) would like it.

I don't know what the new logo looks like, but being purely objective I wouldn't have gone for the ones you came up with if I were her either, at least not as presently constructed. The Seattle space needle doesn't need to be there (I think that's what the building is called), as "Seattle" is in the name...so the geographic symbol is unnecessary to me. I'm also not sure about the colors...not because they're ugly colors (they're nice), but rather because I would have gone with more "chick-friendly" colors, like soft pink and purple. If it's done right, I would have been a little nauseated by it.

The pregnant woman is cool, and I probably would have chosen the Lobster Two font, but again, I think there are elements that kill it. Mind you, I'm also trying to apply reason to the unreasonable, so I could be way off here.

    2 issues here...

Family... and I better not say.. but going into it, you should have known ( you were not going to be right ).... LOL

Anyway... when I do work for friend or family, I expect them to Question my judgement because they are family and they still remember or have heard of the days when I was running naked , or the time I showed my .... or.... I think you get the picture.

My clients do have ideas and it's my job to encourage and sometime SHOVE them in the correct direction sometimes... but to them, I AM the AUTHORITY, because they don't know what my family knows and they rarely question my judgement or ideas.

I always have to work harder for them ( normally create at least one really off the wall design to show them first ) and kinda get the SHOCK value out of the way, then once they are thoroughly repulsed, shocked... or whatever, I slide in the design I want them to go with... playing it down slightly and praising them for selecting the right one for their project... underhanded ? yes... Sneaky? absolutely... Works ? 99% of the time.
