    Hi there -

I'm trying to resize an image smaller than actual size - but I get a terrible loss of quality if I simply resize.

I have a funny feeling that the way around this is to save it as a vector image [?that right?] - but I've no idea how to go about this.

At the moment it is simply a .bmp file.

I use PSP7, but have access to photoshop if I need to use it.

    Thanks!

    Brian

Do it in Photoshop; it does very nice resizing (bicubic I think).

you'll never get completely around the problem of lossing quality.

but try scaling it down by a 1/2 or a 1/4.

so if your image is 300x200 try scaling it to 150x100.

a better way is to trace the bitmap using something like flash so it's a vector image.

Tracing will be a real pain though, so unless you really need it you probably shouldn't do it

Is there? Tell me more! I know someone with Flash.

And the image is quite important. My site logo.

I need to resize from about 450 sq to about 100 sq. Simply resizing in PSP7 results in a quite poor loss of quality.

The Flash tracer command sounds most useful.

I'll try the photoshop as well when I can.

    k,

these instructions are for Flash 5.

    open flash

    click: File > Import
then find the image file that your logo is in

    select the image

    click: Modify > Trace Bitmap

change color threshold to about 25 (the lower the number the better the quality)

and then you have a vector image in flash

select everything then right click on it and select scale

then just tinker with it until you get the right size ect...
then click: File > Export Image

I tried Flash tracer on a few images (logos particularly), the result was horror, of course you can then fix it by hand and that's where the pain comes in.

Your best bet would be to do it in photoshop, if it is a gif don't forget to change the mode to RGB ( menu: Image > Mode > RGB ) first.

the result was horror because you set the color threshold too high.

like i said set the color threshold to something like 25.

I know you are not going to believe me, but I used threshold to 10.

anyway, I said what I experienced.
