I'm looking into purchasing Photoshop Elements 2.0 for Christmas (64.99/$99)(Basically because I can't afford Photoshop itself), but wanted to know if anybody could outline the differences between it and Photoshop 7/CS. What I am ideally looking for is a website that compares the two side-by-side as such? Any ideas please.

    Thanks for any responses.

    EDIT

I have found that PS lacks CMYK support, and lacks 24 bit plus compatibility. It also have ImageReady. Can anybody shed some light on what issues/things I won't be able to do without these supports?

Not sure, but I expect you will only have the main tools, and not a great amount of detail.

    May be a little risky.

It appears that PS Elements doesn't support Image Slicing or rollover image creation either, so I think I might leave this alone. Anyone know much about Photoimpact?

Get PSP if you are a bit short on cash.

You could always get The Gimp, some argue that it's better than PS (well probably because it's free), it's a pretty good package.

I agree with JR, Paint Shop Pro is a more sensibly priced alternative to Photoshop.

    - the gimp is a great package!!!
    - PSP is a waste of money IMO and the interface isn't as nice as PS
    - If you want PS for cheap goto www.journeyed.com or get a job next summer

    - PS 7, which i have,upl has CMYK support
    - 24 bit plus compatibility; i have 32 bit compatibility if you are talking about bitmaps.

    PS elements limitations:

I hope this helps a bit...
