    Hello All,

I am new to this forum and let me start by saying thanks for having me. I have designed and posted web sites successfuly for a while now by just writing html code in notepad and just sending it up to my host site. It is time I moved up in the world and I want to add Flash Animation and other advanced graphics techniques to my skill set. Where do you recommend I start? Can you recommend any good books or software that I should get to get me going? (I don't have Photoshop, Dreamweaver or anything along those lines yet)

    Thanks in advance!

OK, I think you don't need Flash yet, just stick with normal XHTML/CSS/Static images.
A good place to start learning CSS is here: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
To learn PS, just google 'photoshop tutorials' and a ton of results will appear.
You should also get PS and DW. Or if you don't have the money, get a free HTML editor like http://www.chami.com/html-kit/ , and get a not brand new version of PS, version 7 will work, look at this thread: http://www.webdesignforums.net/showthread.php?t=12994

Thanks xarst! I will get an older version of Photo Shop and start learning. Using normal XHTML/CSS/Static images can you animate? For example: Make a web page with a picture of a car where the wheels are turning?
    Thanks again for your reply

These effects can be created with animated GIF files. Where you have a series of frames that rotate so that the wheel view changes.
