The next version of Web Design Forums.net, WDF v5, has more features than all of the past versions put together. There's also some super-secret, super-sexy stuff we're working on that doesn't even need a web browser.

It's a lot of code and will have a lot of bugs. We need people to find and kill those bugs, plus get exclusive access to a live development implementation of WDF v5. So, we're offering a private beta program to test various elements of WDF (none yet available, but soon for such testers).

If you want to become a beta tester, simply apply through your user control panel. Your request will automatically be entered and possibly approved (don't feel bad if you weren't). If you join the beta program, just remember that's private and you can't discuss what you see with others, including links for files, although it's alright if you mention that you are in the program.

Note the link above might just jump to WDF's home page; don't worry, your request will have been submitted.

You can apply anonymously relative to the general public, but your response will have more heft if you post in this thread after applying with the following items to best determine if you would be suitable for the program. If you have more than one computer, just list each one as applicable (it'll improve your chances...hint hint).
    • Your web browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.). List the ones that you use fairly regularly, not that you have installed and effectively never use.
    • Your primary operating system (Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac OS X 10.4, etc.)
    • If you use Windows 2000/XP, if you are the administrator of your machines or not (i.e., if you can install programs on your home and work systems, if applicable).
    • Your Internet connection (both home and work, if you are able to browse WDF at work)
    • The smallest and largest screen resolutions you use (for example, 1024 x 768 up to 1920 x 1200)
    • What type of iPod you have, if any (none is just fine)
    • Anything else about your setup you feel is applicable
    • Your time zone (GMT +/- x if you know it, or if you don't, EST, PST, etc.)
    • Your age (or at least if you're over 18...no, not for that reason)

The beta program should not take up too much of your time. You may occasionally be asked to install simple software on your computer (no, there are no virii or spyware and you can uninstall whenever you want) or visit specific pages to see how they look and function. Should super-special future beta programs occur, the most useful participants may be asked to join them. It's always better to report a bug than assume somebody else did.

Best of luck to all applicants. Remember to reply after you applied if you don't mind. You can also reply if you have any general questions or comments.

And as a final note, if you apply, make sure that the e-mail address specified in your control panel is something you check and up-to-date (as it always should be, but specifically for this as well).

If you are approved, which could take several days, you will see a new forum appear just under this one in WDF's main forum listing. Please visit that forum and read its threads. If you are not approved or do not see the forum, please don't appeal to be in the program because my decision was made for one reason or another--and likely for no personal reason.
