WDF v4 is very close to completion. The todo list is getting shorter, and the only real major hurtle is continuing to port the turtle dollar system.

For those unfamiliar with WDF v4: it is the next design iteration of this site. More importantly, it will mark the upgrade from vBulletin 2 (the software currently powering these forums) to vBulletin 3. The site will become exceedingly more accessible, use less bandwidth, be more featureful, and generally more of a pleasure to use. I personally think it looks better, too (search for "sneak peek" in this forum for screenshots).

The projected upgrade date on the live server is Saturday, April 17, 2004, most likely during the afternoon. This is not a guaranteed date and unexpected problems could push it back (but it will not be pushed forward).

WDF will be inaccessible to everyone, including moderators, during this time. The upgrade should take a matter of hours. If all goes well, WDF will be just as it was before, including retaining all members and posts just as normal. If the site is inaccessible during the scheduled downtime, do not repeatedly refresh the page as it will simply make the upgrade take longer for everybody. There is the possibility that you will be greeted with a .htaccess login prompt as well.

Among the features not yet shown new for WDF v4 are:
    • Far easier :wdfplus: subscriptions (fully integrated into your user CP)
    • Subscribe to threads without necessarily e-mail notifications
    • Daily digests via e-mail
    • XHTML/CSS-compliant design and fully accessible; fonts no longer pixel-based as they are now
    • Multiple attachments per post
    • One-click switching between a narrow static layout and a full-sized liquid layout
    • No more buggy last thread titles (the board finally loses its AI )
    • Notification of upcoming events (contests, downtimes, etc.) at the bottom of every page days prior to the event
    • Faster-loading pages (theoretically)
    • Moderator notes (different-styled posts that are simply notes made by a moderator)
    • Public thread notes (thread moving, stickying, closing, etc. notes including what moderator performed the action)
    • Warning for those viewing a cached version of the page from Google, including the age of the cached version (moderators: ?pretendgoogle=1)
    • First few sentences of a post displayed below the title
    • More powerful search engine
    • What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor an option--no need for vB code tags
    • :wdfplus: members: new, more powerful version of vBMS for webmail

There are many more features as well. To make a feature recommendation, reply or post in the WDF Questions and Comments forum.

Nice! But what does this mean:

No more buggy last thread titles (the board finally loses its AI )

The titles of the newest thread in forums that appear on forumhome are frequently incorrect here and the board tends to choose them seemingly on its own. Fixed in vB3 where the support is officially there.

EvB Stats? What does that stand for?

Our "News" is the announcement section, top 10 posters is already there, and IIRC there's already a section for past SOTM winners.

vB arcade? Sorry, no vB hack support here. For that you'll have to go to vbulletin.org .

What would be nice is a link to the top 10 TDers here. There's already a link for it somewhere, but at times it's hard to find.

Honestly, that would make this forum cheesy. filburt's aiming for more of a professional forum, shoutbox, arcades and massive avatars just seem useless.

    1. No, unnecessary
    2. No, destroys design
    3. No
    4. Possibility but not likely in the near future. Also the stats would be decided by me; mosts posts is not rewardable in my mind because it promotes useless posts.
    5. Absolutely not. This is a professional forum and that hack also has security problems.
