Talking New to the forum want to say hiii and have a few questions regarding website hosting

    So hey everyone.
I had a few questions regarding web hosting. I have learned css, html, and some php so far for web development. I am planning on making my first "real" website(lol) and needed some guidance for this noobie.
    1. What is a good web hosting company i could use for my website.
    2. I am building a simple website for my uncle's construction company. Only thing he really needs is company pictures and recieve emails from the website from people looking for a quote. Would php be good for building the e-mail or is their another way??
    Thanks ALot cheers

I am just about done with my subscription with GoDaddy(who I do not recommend) and will probably be switching to SectorLink. It was recommended by Game, who is another member here, and so far my research has led me to them as well. I will say that whatever you do, take a minute to look up the EIG list of companies and mark them down as hosts to avoid. If you do a lil Googling you can find out why I recommend to avoid them.

As far as is Php good for what you need, yes it is. There is other ways, but if you already know php then Id stick with that for now. Personally I am trying to use Php less and less and work more with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

yeah i was thinking of godaddy but i have heard a lot of things about them. I have messed around a little with ruby and ruby on rails so i might just try and do it in rails. Thanks a lot for the feedback

GoDaddy is ok, until you need customer support. I have sat on hold for over an hour waiting for them to get to me. All while saying "estimated wait time is 3 minutes" for about the last 20minutes. Then when I finally did get to a rep they were rude and condescending. Not to mention they didn't help me much and I actually found a solution on my own.

Php was my first backend language. I am still sort of unfamiliar with the more technical side of it. I can usually figure out what I need but do get stuck at times and know its partly because of my inexperience. I have been migrating to Ruby because it seems to be more in demand. I want to do this as a freelancer, but also want to be able to find work with a company if I need it. In my area there is very few dev jobs, but the ones there are seem to want Ruby, or Python. This may not be the same for your area. I also enjoy Ruby a little more, not sure why but I just seem to be able to work out kinks better with Ruby.

Vapr_Arts pretty much covered everything I would have.

The one thing I'd tack on is that GoDaddy once lost an SQL Server database of a client of mine. They had backup, allegedly had the database on a RAID1 server (or so I was told)...and they lost it. Couldn't get it back.

Fortunately, it only took me a few hours to rebuild it from scratch...but that's not the point. A host should never, ever do that. They're an okay registrar. They're a horrible host.

I honestly enjoy playing devils advocate, and tried to find an argument against Game's SectorLink recommendation and have found very little to back up the argument. They honestly do seem like a very reliable company.
