Not surprised. Your idea as described means only a handful of us out there will actually be able to do it, and as a result it creates a seller's market.

Upwards of 5k pounds, though, or dollars?

Yeah...that's just a shade above the middle of the range I was thinking of. Anywhere between about $5,000 to $10,000 CAD (I'm Canadian...hence the CAD reference) would have been what I thought, with most of the estimates being in the $8,000 - $10,000 range. 5000 British pounds = about $8000 Canadian. That's roughly the same in USD, since we're more or less at par with them, but I'm not sure what the exact conversion rate is today.

That's also one of the reasons I suggested launching your site in stages. You can break that 5000 pounds up into stages and say spend 2000 to get it to launch in a "good enough" state. The other 3000 can be partly or if you get lucky fully funded by the members who sign up at launch. (Adjust my arbitrary launch/post-launch figures as needed.)

I feel kind of bad because I tried to brace you for those sorts of costs, but I guess I didn't do a good enough job. Sorry about that.
