I have not been building sites for a while but maintain some that I created many years ago. My client's wife wants me to setup a site for her biz (jewelry). She wants to be able to post her items for sale herself but she does not want to to process orders online. She wants people to email her or call her biz and process the orders herself. I installed a couple shopping cart scripts on my server but did not see a way to disable the buying/check out system.

Can somebody recommend a script/system for this purpose? Thanks in advance!

If you want an open source solution you could try OpenCart. It is an easy way to manage categories, products, images, and pricing, and you can disable all the payment systems and have a page where you give an explanation of the ordering process (phone or e-mail).

Just a reminder, there are legal implications for handling Cc payements, even if not using the website.

Please have her contact a professional, as asking for a client to provide CC details via email is not only a risk to the buyer, but illegal in most US locations, and its like a $100k fine for each instance if caught. For her protection, insist on either phone transactions or use a pay pal invoice system, so once the order is complete and ready to send, you login to your account, send an invoice, the client pays, then you ship.

Just my opinion on the subject, but I would find emailing or calling to provide my card/payment information extremely sketchy, especially if it was something that I put into an online shopping cart and I would never ever do it. However, going through paypal or similar method I would feel more comfortable with. I can only imagine her sales would suffer immensely from that decision, and the least you could do is warn her of that.
"Worse" than having a cart on her site, and to her distaste of wanting to take the money from people personally, why not just go through ebay or etsy and just display/link to the items from her site?

Thank you for all the advice so quickly. I will make sure she knows about the emailing of CC#'s. I was planning on suggesting the Etsy route to her. I understand that her not selling online will only hurt her biz but sometimes it is hard to change somebody's mind so just give them what they ask for. Which is basically she just wants a store front that she can update but with no cart, ordering or payment system. I installed OpenCart but did not see how to turn off the payment system in the short time I have had to play around with it. I guess I need to spend some more time with it.
