Installed mysql, specifically to muck around with Ruby.

I have some ruby code, the codes not important, it attempts to connect to mysql, but I always get:

Access denied for user 'bfsog'@'localhost' (USING PASSWORD: YES) (Mysql ::Error)
By default I was given a root user.

I created a database, granted bfsog all privs on that, IDENTIFIED BY 'password'

I cannot get it to work using root or bfsog.

Any idea? And also, the only time I create the user is when I grant?
Or do I create them somewhere else?

Have you made sure it works through the console?
    Code:
    mysql -ubfsog -p database
I just use the MySQL Administrator tool that comes with MySQL to do all the permissions. Much easier than typing queries.

It was working through the console, but I guess my tweaks have mucked that up, as I get the same error as above.

    Questions

1: Where will I find the tool you mention?
2: How do I create a new user (code) - is it just through the grant option?
    3: How do I delete users/drop users?

    Thanks

    Edit: I did..

    mysql -u root

through console and got in, but through ruby it expects the 3 parameters.?

Second edit: still not sure how is the proper way to create users, but now when I try and grant root permissions, I am told..
    Table mysql.user doesn't exist.
