I believe I read this somewhere, a LONG time ago, and I wasn't sure of it back than.

I tried to search for the answer myself, but I couldn't get anything!

Anyway, does MySQL have a database filesize limit? (Meaning a whole database and all of their entries) So like, say i have a database to store news for a CMS --> over time, it accumulates 8MB of textual data, is this database capped?

Or maybe I read that if you use the database to store files, the files would have a filesize cap?

Any help would be much appreciated - thanks!

WDF's database is about 300 MB and there are MySQL databases several GB in size. Other than poorly designed schemas, there is no practical limit.

Although I'll hijack the thread to say that PostgreSQL is better than MySQL in virtually every respect, and still free.

Generally speaking, they don't have a size limit, just because that sort of defeats the purpose. At the same time, a really big table is slower to search than a smaller one, especially if you don't have indexes set up properly. However, the database won't just stop working -- it'll just work slower.
