Ugh.... I think I got it. I just installed SQL Server 2000 last night... didn't even have time to stop the service to install SP3 and I saw my DSL go through the roof and couldn't shut down the service. I had to turn it to manual and restart my computer to get DSL back. I'm installing SP3a now and then I'm going to run a full virus scan. I hate life

Didn't cost me a dime. Work pays for it Perks of being VP of Engineering ;-)

I'm gonna use it for ASP et. al.

I don't really plan on USING it at home, though. That is, not as a production server. It's more just for staging work apps and developing. This is, after all, my workstation.

For my production machine here, I'm going to set up a Free BSD / PHP / PostgreSQL server.

    Why postgre?

Free BSD Is a pain in the arse to get going... but the nice thing about it, is once you get it going.. it takes a bulldoser to take it down

Postgre because I can't live w/o stored procedures.

Fortunately for me, I'm not the one who has to set up the Free BSD. My best friend is a unix admin

Ahh... makes sense Good deal with the unix admin friend... Our CS server at school (also runing web/php/mysql) was running Free BSD... took us forever (we didn't/don't know jack about it) to get it running However, the only downtime we experienced from then until we took it down was due to a power outage

don't complain, you know you love tinkering with it...
