A few years back I found software that would fill PDF forms from a database online. I can't seem to find it now everything points toward online services. I can use PDFfiller.com for start-up but would prefer my own where each time the form is filled it receives a unique form number. Can anyone tell me where to find the software.

You're probably looking at doing the PDFs on the fly.

http://www.aspnetworld.com/articles/2004011801.aspx <-- never used any of these myself, but I have used .NET for RTF/DOC on the fly generation. It's actually how I do my billing now.

So you want to "fill the PDF form with data", might I ask what you're going to do with the data in the form ??? allow users to print ? or submit back t the DB...

I'm assuming the later as you are wanting to create a unique ID...

If you have a program that will fill in the pdf form with data... your unique ID should be a string created from date and time... that way you'll never get the same ID... ever again...

Adobe used to have the whole "server" "DB" form generation thing... They recently shut down their "doc system" that allowed users to control the "who, what, when and how much" a PDF could be accessed... It's was a very intriguing system, but I guess not enough people wanted to spend 100K to secure their documents at that level...

A few details of what you are trying to accomplish might bring some other suggestions or perhaps a better way of what you are trying to do...

I am building a site that will give the client a certificate. I want to be able to have the certificate brought up on screen with it's own ID number and current date. Have the client fill in their name and information and be able to download it and a completed form be saved in the database.

Again, you're probably looking at some form "on the fly" generation. You take the user input, validate and sanitize it, store it to database, and then present them with a downloadable certificate. The only question is whether you generate the certificate before or as the user requests it; I'd recommend "before", but that really depends on your application.

Yes, the form is pre-made the only reason I need it to come from the database really is for the numbering.
