How do I have a user that has create an account on my web site to have to verify their account through email?

I have everything set up where a user creates an account with username, password, etc. When they create their account, how to I have them verify their account by sending them an email with a link they have to click before using the account? My database is MySQL and I am using PHP.

OK - you may have to start again from the beginning - but check this out:

You create their account in your MySQL database, but you also put in one column for "verify".
When that account is created, you put a random token (like j8Ut56Jms35il6) into that column,
and also send them an email with that token. They click a link in their email (that has the token),
and your script then verifies it, changes the "verify" value from the token to "OK" or something like that.
Now you know they have verified using a valid email address that matches their account.
