Searching a database and saving to webpage

As stated in the title I am looking to create a search box that'll be on the webpage, I want to use it to search a MySQL database comprising of images and their respective links.

I would like the user to be able to search for them and add their preferences on their page.

If anyone can offer any advice on how I should go about doing this it would be much appreciated

    Thanks very much.

p.s if you think this is in the wrong section please let me know.

You just need to use a backend language like PHP to connect to the database, run the query and then display the results.
