    Unused database

If I stage a website on a subdomain and later delete that subdoamin and website files with it, but not the SQL database. Does that database ,which is not connected to any website is still active? Does it use processes?
The original website domaim and database is still active. The copied sub domain is deleted.

The database software overall uses a process. If there's nothing using that particular database, it won't increase the load on the server. Now, if you're not using any SQL at all, and you have control over the server, you could kill that process and save on the processing that way.
