I'm trying to connect to a friends server who is using a homeip address, and I was wondering if this was possible. I don't know too much about FTP so if someone could please help it would be greatly appriciated.

Not sure, but using IE as ftp, if his firewall permits, go to ftp://(his homeip address) to access it.

I presume this is the sort of thing needed?

Edit: I think I may hve not understood your question though.

I'm sorry guys I wasn't specific enough...Both my and my friend havedyndns.org addresses or homeip addresses where you set up apache and mysql to be your server (how i don't know, i just followed the tutorial on here) but anyways he wanted help with his site, and, short of me being there, there wasn't a way I could help. So we tried to install CuteFTP and transfer files that way, but we've ran into a ton of problems....mine says its connecting has his ip and such...but it won't connect. Any help is appriciated.

OK, you want to connect to your friend's computer via FTP.
That can't be done without some preliminar steps, you have two options:
Using IIS and setup the FTP, or use apache for that instead. (You can also use a little FTP daemon like WarFTP).
The problem is that I don't know how to configure apache to let FTP connections work
