    How Do These Forums Work?

Does this forum use a database to store the threads and posts?

I've been looking through it, and it doesn't seem to. Instead, everything seems to be appended to an HTML file.

I guess it was created that way so the threads can get indexed in search engines better? Doesn't seem to be any functional reason to do it that way.

Anyhow, do the files get unmanageable? How often do you update the files to your local machine and / or back them up for archiving?

The really curious part is that every time you view a thread, it updates things like Signatures and User Status, which would suggest that there IS a database and the html file gets recreated every time someone views it. That could get really processor intensive though.

I dunno. You tell us how it works

I believe WDF uses a sort of archive to view threads in user-friendly URL's, which would be the result of HTML extensions in some threads. But you are right, the actual forums have a database at the back-end to store information.

I am not totally sure how the archive works, i've never used one (and I think this is filburt1's version)
I can guess it retrieves the data from previous posts/threads and puts them into HTML and then outputs it as a HTML file.

All I'll say is that thread5561.html is not a real file.
