    You can do neither, but you can request it be closed. The vast majority of cases should not involve closing a thread once it is resolved.

    If it is resolved, should the original poster not edit the first post and put [resolved] at the start of the title?

    This way if another user has a problem/question and they search for it, the search returns matching threads and oh look, heres one that is resolved.
