I assume this forum doesn't use Stop Forum Spam, as new user link posting is blocked etc.

Would make for a better experience, if SFS was integrated here:
    Code:
    http://stopforumspam.com/

    http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=248042

    Hi Beluga,

We do use stopforumspam however still get an awful lot of spam being posted. Unfortunately it looks like a number of vB3.8 spam mods clash with each other, which sometimes causes problems. We're actually moving over to XenForo within the next month or so, which will resolve a lot of the spam issues and hopefully allow us to re-activate links for new members.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated

Also, those two ideas (link blocking and black lists of spammers) aren't mutually exclusive. Nothing to say a new spammer couldn't be a human, sign up through a new proxy or zombie PC (or simply something not on the black list), bide their time, and post links. It's been done before.

Nice to hear your replies. In another forum where I posted this simultaneously I only got "funny" comments and the thread was quickly deleted
The reason I was so confident about SFS is I'm co-admin at a phpBB forum where we haven't got a single spammer for a month - since I installed a mod with SFS integration. Even before that it wasn't so bad because I had a simple custom Q&A that no one else uses and can't be figured out by artificial intelligence.

Yeah the only problem with SFS is that it can be easily avoided by using a different IP/username/email which aren't too hard to get hold of anymore.

With the move to XF it'll allow us to make tweaks and such ourself without having to do any modifications to the core of the forum system - theoretically allowing us to make our registration process unique to stop bots!

Dude, if you want to make the registration process unique, ask multiple choice questions that only a web developer with a clue could answer. Here are three:

    1) Complete this sentence: Tables ____________ be used for layouts.

    a) Should
    b) Should not.

    2) Guaranteed #1 ranking in Google is _____________.

    a) Encouraged.
    b) Easy with a well-built site.
    c) Impossible.

    3) HTML stands for: _________

    a) Hi There, Moe and Larry!
    b) Hypertext Markup Language.
    c) Have That Made Later.
