I think it would be wise to restrict offers to be posted just like at vBulletin.org.

Maybe for the same reasons they have, but I think its better for a person to bid for the project via Private Message or email.

I have some reasons, which I don't think should be made public, which everyone should know from common sense.

It would also provide better results for the poster of the job.

The only two objections I have:

    1. Even though users are supposed to read sticky threads, they often don't and won't realize that others can't.
    2. Often the initial request is too vague. Users would be forced to contact the poster with the same questions as others.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I don't see what reasons you mean

It effectively stops people from getting cheap advertising by saying "I can get a good rate, PM me" (instead of them just PMing the poster).

I dont' see a problem... to me that's just how things go. If someone requests a service, the other party advertises their services.

Maybe we can change it so that replies to a thread in that forum are only visible to the thread starter and the poster? (and mods and admin, of course). That way, even if someone tries to blatantly advertise, they're only advertising to the thread starter.

That's a good idea. If that's not possible, then us mods can keep a closer watch on that forum, and edit any posts that sound obnoxious. I don't think this is a HUGE problem though.
