    Hi,

My Dad's been trying to sign up to WDF, but every time he clicks submit on the registration page he gets a 'access denied page' that asks him to log in.

Are you not accepting new regs at the moment, or is the script playing up?

Btw, tried signing up myself a second ago and I couldn't get it to work either, so it's not just his age / computer ability preventing him

Might be because it is the same IP address. You'll have to wait for filburt to reply on this one...

Aah true. Hmmm. One example of when sharing an internet connection can suck.

I think filburt has "invented" the IP blocking hack for vBulletin. (That is to prevent a banned person to sign up with a new account from the same IP.)

That might be the reason WDF doesn't accept multiple accounts from the same IP.

I'm of course speculating, and should maybe just keep my mouth shut.

WDF does not allow two accounts to be registered with the same IP address. If possible, ask him to register while at work or another network.

    Thanks,

An idea for VB3 - if you're going to use this system, make it deny access before you fill in the fom, and make it obvious what the error is! At the moment, it just gives you access denied. I spent a good half hour trying to register and wondering what was up with it!

Secrecy is part of security. If we told people what was causing the error (like we just have done), someone who is banned could easily release/renew their IP, get a new IP address, and then sucessfully sign up. By giving a generic error message, it makes it slightly harder for the unwelcome to sign up. Of course, your Dad is not one of the unwelcome, so a solution has been proposed.
