you should get a little icon by the side of each thread inside the forums asking for answers - e.g. in help and support forums, but not in "how my site" or "site of the month" etc.

then, when the person who started the thread has successfully received an answer to their troubles, they check a little box and by the side of the thread is a little icon saying "solved " or something. then if it isnt solved it could say "unsolved " this could save people's times and if they just want to help they could scan down the age looking for "unsolved " threads.

as people post things that arent sometimes quite useful enough.

I suggested that a while back when I was talking about the statistics graphic that filburt released. Then the graphic could attract people by advertising how many people have been helped rather than just the volume of activity.

Filburt reasoned that people wouldn't bother clicking the solved button but I still think it's a good idea.

Wouldn't save any time for moderators, as we're here to keep the site orderly, not necessarily to solve everyone's problems. Besides, all of us read every thread regardless of if it's closed or not. We're geeky that way

Theoretically, this can be done with the existing group of thread icons, although not exactly the way you described. I may look into it.

Something you could look into for the next version is the ability to specify which post actually answered the thread. That would be cool

But what would you do if multiple people answered different parts of the problem? It's best to just say that the thread was answered, both to acknowledge everyone's posts, as well as not hurt anyone's feelings.

They could have an icon to show that they have an answer but they need elaboration...

Like ? or a confused happy face or something?
