Not really. It works for some but many are somewhat random.

Not wanting to stray off topic, but what does .php stand for?

There's quite a few recursive acronyms around - I believe MIT is responsible for starting the trend. Here's a few more:

TINT (TINT Is Not TECO) - probably the first one
    EINE (EINE Is Not EMACS)
    ZWEI (ZWEI Was EINE Initially)
    LIAR (Liar Imitates Apply Recursively)
    GNU (GNU's Not Unix!)
XINU (XINU Is Not Unix) - this is also a Backronym and as such is similar to the naming of the the Nimda virus (Admin reversed). Those crazy guys at MIT just don't know when to stop. My favourite acronym has to be TWAIN (Technology Without An Interesting Name).

And just to be annoying here are a few more files that use the .ai extension although based on the content of this forum I'm sure Illustrator is the kiddie:

    Advantage Database Server File
    Ai Archiver Archive
    Corel Trace Drawing
    EARS Component File
    Progress Database After Image File

Right I think that's enough for this Geekfest.
