WinRAR is infinitely better than WinZip, also. Much less crappy UI, less intrusive registration notices, better compression schemes...

Listen to filburt, he is wise in his ways.. winrar is leaps and bounds better then winzip. It can handle any grouping/compression format winzip can and many that it cannot. The rar format itself is far better than the zip format in both features and compression, zip just happens to be more popular.

My only comment is if you do not register winrar it moves very slowley. Its cheap anyway and I suggest you register a copy if you replace winzip.

There is an opensource program called 7-Zip
    http://www.7-zip.org/

I use it I like it better than both WinRAR and WinZIP, you guys should give it a try. It's also opensource, meaning you don't have to register it.

Never fails.. just when I think I have found the best piece of software for a given application, another one comes around thats better and usually open source!!

Looks interesting.. especially since it also support rar files. I will have to try it out, thanks for the link.

I tried 7-z but I don't like it too much because compress less than WinRAR and is slower too. But as it is opensource, with the time it will be improved I suppose.
Another good one is WinACE, it's also much better than ZIP of course.
