You don't really need a new pc to play it. had a bunch of articles about hardware tests for doom 3 and you really don't need a top of the line pc to play it, you just need a top of the line pc to play it with it looking it's best. Like I said I have a mediocre pc and Doom plays great with no performance slowdowns at 800x600 high quality on my pc.

The gameplay is supposed to scare the hell out of you, and like filb said if you let your guard down for a few seconds thats when it happens. The gameplay isn't boring. You really have to just play the game to enjoy it. If you go into the game with the highest of expectations, then just about any game can be a letdown. The first 10 mintues of the game are boring (somewhat, it depends on your ability to stay focused) until you get your guns and the action kicks in. It's just like some movies, where the first 15 minutes of the movie are informational and plot related and after that it just takes off. Play the game to play it and not pick at any particular part of the game and you will find it's fun, immersive, and good looking.

Play the game before you knock it, because opinions are like a certain part of the body...and everyone on God's earth has one. The important part is that you form your own.
