There has been an ongoing debate over this very question. When you turn on and off a few times a day, that has been deemed bad! Because of the inital power surge your system board and components have to endure. So if you insist on turning it off, turning it off when you know it will not be needed anymore will be good, or just before you go to bed. Now, leaving it on all the time, to me, is the best choice. However, if at 3 am the processor fan stops, that would be a worse case senario. So still this very debate continues to stump even the most advanced computer gurus.

Turn it off, do you leave your TV or your lights (in rooms seperate to your bed) on when you go to sleep?

On, with the side cover off. It's just so much sexier that way. That, and I don't have to wait for it to boot in the morning.

Work computer stays on so i can VPN from home and work there if necessary. I have no copmuter at home right now, but once I get my new one set up and take it home, it'll be shut off when I'm not using it.

That's a REALLY REALLY OLD urban legend. MAYBE 20 years ago there was an issue with that, but not anymore. You'll break the switch before you fry your system, unless your PSU or motherboard is faulty of course.

I turn my system off overnight, otherwise it makes the room quite hot. I don't care that it takes two extra minutes after I woke up to boot it. I can do other things two minutes after I wake up.

I take it off, but only if my eMule has the download queue empty (almost never).
lol @ TheGAME- yeah, mine has the side cover off also, but that's because this mobo's southbridge gets really hot otherwise.
BTW- Restoring form a hibernation takes no time
