I think the speculation was that Google might go into partnership with Mozilla and release a branded version of the existing Firefox browser...

...that could be very interesting in terms of the "Browser Wars"...

Technically, Google can simply 'steal' mozilla and brand it themselves, and redistribute it for free. Nothing illegal. Nothing immorall. It's how open source works. So I don't see what a real partnership would do.

Although, the idea of a web browser just doesn't make sense to me. They don't need any more people using adsense (browsers). Hosting, to me, makes far more sense. They are obviously experts at it, and have the capital and reputation to turn this shady industry into something dominated by a good company.

It's "in affiliation with google". So it's not really from google. But to get a membership, you have to receive a invitation from someone, like with gmail.

I read about a domain name that google have bought but I cannot remember what it was. It was either to do with a browser or hosting. G something or other. Which would suggest that they are looking to get involved in that. Problem is I can't remember where the darn article is.

There is pretty certain info about both, but that about Google hosting is not so sure by the moment.

I was able to acquire an invite to Orkut...and I stumbled across an error page that might interest a few people.

PS. Unlike gMail, invites are a plenty....
