Pretty much anything other than IE is an upgrade. I say that not because I like to trash Microsoft, on the contrary I think some products they produce are quite good. I say that because the their browser really is crap and they have done very little to correct that*. It is very behind, and since almost everybody except for web designers or other techno-geeks use IE exclusivly, it is drasticly slowing down the advancement of almost all web standards projects.

On that note, I personally go for firefox. Not nessessarilly because it is a good browser(and it is). But because there is an extention that has proven itself quite valuable. The webdveloper extention. It has proven itself worth more then almost any other pice of software I own. And it is totally free!!

Opera is very nice but it costs money, for some reason it is hard for my mind to swallow the idea of having to pay for a browser no matter how cheap it might be. On the up side there is a free version, and it is just as robust as the paid version. Only it is filled to the brim with pop-ups and other advertising.

Some other greats are any gecko based browser like mozilla or netscape. Or safari and camino for the Mac, as well as konkore(sp) for the KDE environment on linux.

*Note: This is quite ironic since IE was the first major browser to begine to support webstandards witch is what gave it such an edge back in the 'browser war' days (that and Microsoft starting intergrte and ship it with windows).
