What version of Windows do you have? Have you tried System Restore (WinME or WinXP)?

Files will not be removed when you do System Restore. Any programs which have been uninstalled/installed after the date you choose will have the operations reversed (IE a program you uninstalled may be installed again .)

WinXP System Restore does not delete files, unless they are in your desktop, and sometimes in My Documents. Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. FYI, if you have a CD from your manufacturer that says System Restore, DO NOT USE IT. That one WILL ERASE EVERYTHING.
