I'm working on a project now and the owner wants to be able to put images of celebrities on the site. It is not porn, it is for movie reviews. But I think there is no legal way of doing other than getting permission from the owner of the images?? Am I right on this, can someone shed some light?

It is always best to get permission first. Chances are they will not mind at all, perhaps offer a link back or something in exchange. Don't just jump ahead and stick them on the site. It may cause a wee bit of hassle if they get ugly over it all. Unlikley but it has happened time and time again in the past and will continue to happen.

well i think that its none of your bussines. You are just designing the site as requested and dont forget to put the copyrights in the end of the page of the site OWNER! Therefore even if someone will not be pleased about the pics or anything else it's the site owner's business. So you're safe dont worry.

Either way, at least suggest to your client to do so. It depends what your job is for this project. You don't want the blame shifted onto you.

I think that's an ignorant aproach and bad business ethic. If you don't do or say a damn thing to the your employer to shed light on the situation and the employer gets heat because of his ignorance, you will end up getting a bad name as well because of your ingorance and/or lack of consideration. This is obviously a very contraversial subject in regards to web design/developement, and is well enough known that if you are being paid to render a service your employer will expect you to cover all known grounds, including this.

Plus the fact that if the company asks you to put photos on a site which you know to be copyright you will also get grief. You are making a profit from material known to be copyright.

Every person has their opinions which i respect at a limited ponit. But im just telling the truth. I didnt say that i do it myself like this or i dont do it. Im just being realistic. Tell me is anyone gonna sue you - the designer of the site - for uploading pics that u know u shouldnt but your employer tells u to do it? And to conclude i think that you cannot give your opinion about peoples business ethic. Everyone has a different one so nobody is going to take in consideration what you have to say. If you can't keep it to yourself then try to bring it out in a more "classy" way

(Okay, IANAL - I Am Not A Lawyer - and that's a bit extreme but you get the point. You still might get sued.)

Please read the small print before mocking me, I'm making a valid point.
