    Their web site sucks.

    1. Constant timeouts.
    2. Took me two hours to find out where to change my order online.
    3. Changing an order online doesn't take effect except during normal work hours.
    4. They categorize their products for idiots; mice and cables aren't their own categories.

Then again, $450 for a popular 20" LCD isn't that bad.

Call them, make sure it went through. The phone reps may be able to get you a better deal.

Dell is such a headache. Everyone I know who has a Dell has constant problems.

Why shop on Dell, filburt? Not a Newegg fan?

The cheapest 20" LCD on Newegg is $100 more than what I paid. Normally I would use Newegg, my experience with them has been excellent.

I got a Dell laptop at work a few days ago (government purchase). Pretty good deal for $2500: a 17" 1920 x 1200 screen, Pentium M 1.6 GHz, Geforce 6800 (256 MB), 60 GB 7200 RPM, 1 GB DDR2, and other stuff like 7 or so USB ports and Firewire. Plus it has DVI out, unlike most manufacturers which don't have a clue. It's software is totally useless like all other venders except Toshiba which includes really useful stuff.

Call Dell Sales. There's a GOOD chance someone there can do it. IIRC, they can modify an order if it hasn't reached a certain stage. If it has, cust service can credit you for the difference if they agree to of course.

Note: hopefully your workplace has already formatted and done a bare WinXP install. If not, I'd highly recommend doing it. They come with SOOOOOOOO much crap installed on them.

I got the system right out of the sealed box (well, the obligitory NASA ID metal tag was stuck on it). It's a normal Dell Windows XP install, but having installed XP twice on two desktops in two weeks, the last thing I want to do is do it again (especially given the drivers for portables are less common).

I did end up calling them and I had to place a separate order and need to cancel the previous one tomorrow. Quite annoying, as is reading Dell coupon codes over the phone given they're alphanumeric and even contain symbols.

Dell deals can be quite a catch! If you don't dislike rebates, Dell has unmatchable deals on many of their hardwares. The shipping is a bit slow though.
