I've recently become addicted to Vitamin C tablets. I consume probably 15 or 20 tablets a day (830% USRDA for Vitamin C each), and I'm afraid that they might be bad for me.

Is anyone aware, other than the effects of the citric acid, of any negative effects of overcomsumption of Vitamin C?

Too much of anything is always bad. Except too much WDF. That can only exponentially increase your health.

    found this in google groups...
    VITAMIN C OVERDOSE:

"How much vitamin C is too much? This powerful antioxidant
can be a double-edged sword. While vitamin C protects cell
from damage by free radicals, researchers at the University
of Leicester have discovered it can also encourage free radical
damage. Thirty volunteers received 500 mg. of vitamin C daily
for six weeks. Their blood was drawn before the study, twice
during the study, and again, after the study ended.

The researchers were looking for 8-oxoguanine and 8-oxoadenine.
High levels of these two substances indicate damage to cells
from free radicals. After six weeks, they found that while
levels of 8-oxoguanine dropped, levels of 8-oxoadenine increased.
From this, they concluded that doses greater than 500 mg/day are
not safe and recommend no more than 200 mg/day.

i found another thing that I haven't seen elsewhere. I started taking 500mg a day, and after about a month my girkfriend saw these big red spots on my skin. So I cut out the C for a couple weeks and they went away. I now take the tablets once every three days and attain vitamin C elsewhere on the remaining days

vitamin c is excreted in urine so in order to overdose you would need have about 7 bottles a day.
Im like you transio, i used to have about 10 a day but vitamins cost too much.
