So a couple months ago I bought an iPod.

Not long after that Apple brought out the new iPod Nano. Small, sexier and cheaper.

Now this - http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipod.html announced today.
The much talked about introduction of video to the iPods. Awesome.

I don't even have colour. Let alone photos or even VIDEOS. If Apple go ahead and bring out a Powerbook with a ton of new features I'm going to be depressed!

How long do you guys think it will be before we start seeing things like video rentals and purchasing coming from Apple online?

You already can buy videos online from Apple, starting today, for TV shows, music videos, etc. $1.99 per TV episode which I think is quite reasonable except it's 320 x 240 native, so useless for good quality PC viewing.

But still, the news was good enough that, for the first time, I'm selling an older-model product to throw money at the newer one.

I was a bit appalled they went with 320x240. If they went 640x480 I'd be all over that. But, I don't think it's worth it for cruddy ipod-sized TV shows (I was expecting them to optimize it for standard TV viewing)

I sold my iPod mini a week ago and went out and bought a Nano - the best thing I've done in a while and I'm very pleased I did it - need to get a case for it at some stage though!

Video iPods sound cool but to me seem like a fashion accessory as the screen is a tad small?

I normally agree with Steve Jobs when he says Apple is known for elegant simplicity, but it was completely stupid to compare the number of buttons on the iMac remote with the Windows Media Center remotes. The iMac doesn't have a TV tuner...that's 20-some buttons right there. And how do you mute? What about rating programs?

Have you ever used an ipod shuffle?

All of what you're asking for is possible with a little bit of ingenuity.

For example: My play/pause button serves a multitude of features. If I triple click it, I scroll to the beginning of the playlist. And who needs mute when you can pause?

I perfectly agree with the remote.

P.S. Who needs a TV tuner when you can download TV shows?

As Jason Fried would say: Less.
