New York is an expensive city, though Brooklyn is notably cheaper than Manhattan. New York also prides itself on paying very little for beginners, since most industries there are extremely competitve, they can get away with it.

If you google "cost of living" they ask you about your salary and where you're coming from, etc. so I'm not sure how helpful those things are. And, an exact number is hard to calculate.

    Some things to consider:
-The cost of having a car in NYC also includes higher insurance rates, paying for parking (which is not cheap) and the Subway systerm there can get you any where.
    -Prices vary tremendously by neighborhood
-Will you be living alone or with a roommate or two?

I have an eye for detail like you'd never believe.

You can live in Brooklyn, without a car, on a salary of around 30K. But the higher the better :-)
