What I need to clean up is my home directory. There's practically nothing on my desktop, and most of those things that are on there can go away anyway. I don't even need the trash can :-P

windows XP comes with a program will ask you want to clean up unused icons/ seldom used icons about once for every 2 months. So basically you don't need to clean up the icons manually.

I have one icon on my desktop, and that is the recycling bin. Everything else is in my neatly organized start menu.

I have a few critical files and a link to the three IE versions installed on my computer on my desktop. Everything else goes through the run command dialog. But then, I'm running Linux, where everything else *can* go through the run command dialog.

Right-click taskbar, Toolbars, New, choose/create a folder, unlock taskbar, drag the new toolbar to the edge of the screen.
