    • I register a domain via Namecheap.
    • Within one minute, a [typethis]whois[/typethis] on my server sees it, complete with nameservers.
    • Within five minutes, my ISP sees it.
    • Hopefully within the next hour, my free DNS servers will update my changes, and the domain will be live and pointing to my home server.
    So much more fun than spending $70 and waiting days several years ago. Now it's less than $8 (including free WHOIS protection) and super-fast propogation.

    Is it like that now? Back in 2004 I had to wait at least two days for my domain to propagate. It took a few months for Nominet to send the details through the post.
