Oh thank goodness. Sorry, I always get near-heart-attacks when I even start thinking about something similar to Windows Me. It still gives me nightmares...

A pastor friend of mine cursed his PC each time he booted it up and saw the ME screen. He had terrible issues with his.

I'm all about the penguins ;-)

The computer I had that ran Windows Me had to have Doze reinstalled on it about five times within the first 2-3 months of owning it. And another as many over the next few years. When I switched it to Linux, I would only ever allow anyone to reboot it into Doze if they needed the scanner, which had no Linux support (alas).

So... Yeah... Hate Windows Me's guts.

BTW, my laptop now runs Vista RC2 instead of SUSE Linux. Linux = good for servers, sucks for desktops.

Mm. I haven't had any trouble with Linux as a desktop, and I've been using it for about three and a half years or so. I'll grant you this, problems do come up on occasion. And I do have hardware that tends to be kind -- nvidia graphics card, nForce4 motherboard, SoundBlaster sound card. On the other hand, I've never really tried it on a laptop. My brother's girlfriend has, though. Her laptop got stolen recently, and she just got a new one, and the first thing she did was create the backup disks for Doze (HP happily forces you to burn your own disks -- 18 CDS or 3 DVDs...) so she could get Linux on there. Haven't seen her for a couple of days, so she may be waiting on me to install it for her, but once I install it, it's more or less free riding (except when she needs `a program that does X' -- where I usually know the program's name to look for it :-P).
