I went to do some testing and I can no longer access, http://localhost

I have installed uninstalled xampp, read online, tried editing hosts file under windows system, and I can not get anything to work. I had an issue with a random Google redirect virus this morning, was an easy fix, Im not sure if that had anything to do with. Anyway before I start reformatting the drive, just wanted to see if any one may have a thought.
