Okay.. just yesterday i had a machine at work sharing a folder for others to tranfer files to just fine... now today it wont even let me bring up a sharing menu.. if I right click it's just not there. if I go to properties there's no sharing tab.. when I go to network setup and click on "File and Print Sharing" the properties button is dimmed... WTF happpened? It's a win2k machine.. also I got all of these weird arse mybot.whatever files on my C drive... examples of what's in them:
    ** 0 packs ** 2 of 2 slots open, Min: 1.0KB/s
    ** Bandwidth Usage ** Current: 0.0KB/s, Cap: 1000.0KB/s,
    ** To request a file type: "/msg |wRu|G397T412H xdcc send #x" **
Total Offered: 0.0 MB Total Transferred: 0.00 MB
There's not even an IRC client installed on this machine.. somethings weird... and I have norton auto-protect on this machine all the time too.. grrr. anyone know how to at least renable the share?

Well, there is one now! Probably one hiding from you though. Find a good Trojian killer and run that. I'd also heavily scan the network traffic to and from that box.

To prevent something like this from happening again, you should always protect your read / write shares by password protecting them or limiting them to domain users or what not. Also, you should never have a share on a public machine. Only put shares on boxes behind a firewall so outsiders can't even see them.

Transio> that's the theory.. and unfortunately because of the place I work at I can't exactly be telling them to remember another password... heck, I have to remind my boss every time WHERE to put the files and I have a bigarse icon on her desktop thta says "Shared Folder"

So the story grows stranger... I'm running a virus scan and notice as one of the files being scanned as "One minute man (Ludacris).mp3" now... knowing that this is a WORK computer and that nobody even likes that kind of music.. I'm suspicious. I search for the folder and find about 30 or so random mp3s in /WINNT/system32/wins/sys/enter/mp3/ As well as directories for divX, gameZ, appZ... DA FOOK?! This computer is farked and I'm going to spend the rest of the day figuring it out, norton has no help as it doesn't appear to be a listed virus (the one that is now popping up is Backdoor.Roxy, which has no (apparent) connection to any IRC).
