For my desktop management, I use the Krento dock, which is a freeware program but today, I've been getting this error (see attached photo)

Also, I did post on the forum for the dock, this was my post which lists what I did in hopes of fixing my problem:
I am having the same problem and hoped to find a solution here. It worked fine last night, but I've been fighting to get it to work for an hour now. I tried installing over itself, I tried unistalling and reinstalling and I even tried the portable version, all giving the error listed above.

Others have posted with the problem, but no solution has been posted there. Does anyone here know of something I could try?

Even freeware has limitations, and if the publisher decides to do a check and request you not use an old version, by forcing you to upgrade.... That's their choice, like its your choice to use the software or not.

Me personally, I don't use freeware as there's way to may chances to get stuff embedded, or work corrupted with malware, which would install other crap on my machines.

What I find odd in it is that version 3.0 is the newest available version and it's also the version I already had

Well,I'm just throwing out a guess here, but I have seen it before.

The developer has a license server, when the program opens, it connects, checks the license (yes even freeware ), to make sure you're using the current version. If the server doesn't send a response, the software won't start, or displays a pre programmed message or both.

    So either:

    1. The license server is down and not responding
    2. The developer decided "no more freebies"
    3. The path to the server is somehow being blocked ( firewall, DNS record corruption ect ... ).

    Hello,
Krento was already updated to version 3.1 and you can download it from www.krento.net
There is no any time limintation in this version. There is no ads, embedded stuf, malware or any other crap mentioned here as well.
Krento stays fully freeware at it was always before

Sometimes is necessary to force the update of the freeware applications. I saw many time my application repackaged with some kind of keygen (for freeware!) or modified on another way and distributed via torrent or suspicious download sites. I want that users download only the official clean version and don't want that somebody increases the number of visitors to his site by infecting or modifying the good (I hope so) piece of software
